Ground Breaking Begins on 3rd Shaft at Yunnan Site

Press Release Date: January 05, 2015

ARUN Minerals is proud to announce the commencement of development of our second underground shaft at our well producing Yunnan mine site.

Yunnan province in the South West of China, bordered by the nations of Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar is home to a population of some 46.31 million people as well as ARUN Mineral’s well producing underground gold mining facility, which last year set a new record high for recovery with a total production of some 273’000 ounces of gold, with a recovery rate of 4.67g/t and proven probable reserves of at least 2.85 million ounces.

In October of 2014, following extensive geological survey work being carried out over a period of six months, a decision to begin a new shaft at the Yunnan site was approved by ARUN Mineral’s board of directors. The decision to move ahead with this project came after survey works estimated that the proposed shaft would provide some 180’000 ounces within its first year of production with comparable production rates with those of the two existing shafts in the following twelve months.

Despite the day being overcast with several periods of light rain, the mood was a jubilant one as a formal groundbreaking ceremony on the new shaft site was held with members of ARUN Mineral’s board, local political and community leaders and other invited guests in attendance. The projected timeframe for the shaft to enter production capability is six months, allowing for all safety and environmental standards to be met to the highest order.

Speaking at a luncheon following the ceremony the Chief Executive Officer of ARUN Minerals Limited, Mr. Han Liu Wei stated that “the further expansion of recovery efforts at Yunnan is a continuation of ARUN’s policy of taking well performing mining assets and fine tuning even greater performance from them to ensure the best economic returns as shown by the year on year increases in production from this mine.” Later Mr. Han went on to say that “the development of ARUN’s third shaft at the Yunnan site will provide additional employment for a temporary work force of 600 local people with nearly 300 permanent positions being available once the shaft enters its production stage and ARUN is exceptionally proud of the fact that local inhabitants are to be among the first to benefit from these new jobs as we aim to give back to the communities we operate in.”
